This class covers various techniques for the interesting genre of infrared (IR) photography.

IR images can show the world to be very different from that of reality. Different surfaces reflect visible light and IR light produces some amazing results. Trees and people are interesting subjects for those people that use IR in the photography.

We will cover the techniques needed to produce high-quality images along with some lesser used methods such as working with inversions and split tones. We will also cover how to make a custom profile for your camera to ensure that you get maximum capacity within the raw converter.

This online class is limited to 30 students to allow plenty of time for questions and personal help from Jonathan

What you will learn

The class will be split over two sessions of 90 minutes each. In those sessions we will cover the following subjects…

Week 1

Making the custom profile for your camera
Controlling noise and pre-sharpening
Maximising false colour in your file
Colour grading
Discuss IR converted Cameras and IR filters
How DSLR and Mirrorless cameras differ

Week 2

Increasing detail within the image
Introducing glow
Enhancing false colours
Inverting channels
Working in monochrome
Building your own workflow

Meet the Instructor – Jonathan Vaines

We are delighted to welcome Jonathan Vaines to the Photoclub247 team as our resident Photoshop & Printing expert.

He is an internationally recognised photographic judge and teacher, known for his innovative creative approach and post-processing expertise.

Jonathan regularly teaches Photoshop online, both in groups and one to one sessions. He is also an Educator for the Royal Photographic Society and runs processing workshops for them.

Based in Bedfordshire, UK, he empowers photographers around the world.

You can join the Live lessons using a mobile device, although we find it is a better option to use a desktop or laptop computer.

You can watch the Live Lessons on any internet enabled device.

We use Zoom to host these live lessons.

You have access to all the lessons, videos and recordings of the Live Lessons for 1 year from the end of the class.

Yes, the Live lessons will be recorded and published in the class content so you can catch up at anytime. You have access to the class material, including the recordings, for 1 year from the end of the class.

You can ask questions during the lesson using the Zoom comments section. Or you can unmute your microphone and ask the question directly to the instructor. The instructor will give you guidance on this at the start of the live lesson.

If you have a question about the lesson when watching the recording, each class has its own dedicated “Secret Space” on the members portal, exclusive to attendees of the class. You can post your questions/comments in this space and get help from the instructor and other attendees.

We use Zoom for the Live lessons.

You have the option to turn off your camera if you don’t want to appear on screen to the other attendees.
