When Liverpool-based street photographer John Hughes first touched down in Bangkok, he struggled to find his spark. At first glance, the city felt like any other modern global metropolis – a sea of familiar storefronts and homogenised urban sprawl that left him feeling skeptical about its photographic potential. It wasn’t until he stepped off the beaten path and into the vibrant, chaotic heart of Chinatown that the city finally began to reveal its true character to his lens.
The real turning point, however, came from a friend’s recommendation to visit the historic Hua Lamphong Railway Station. What started as a casual look-around quickly spiraled into an all-consuming obsession. John found himself returning to the station every single day of his trip, captivated by its timeless atmosphere and the endless stream of human stories passing through its gates.
In this webinar, John shares the stunning results of that obsession. He’ll walk us through his favourite images and discuss the creative shift that happens when you move past the “tourist” facade of a city to find its beating heart.
