ICM in the Studio

A different approach to making abstract Art

David Day is an intentional camera movement photographer who resides in the mountains of North Carolina.

An experimenter at heart, David pivoted away from both traditional and ICM photography of landscapes after a happy accident one day while returning home from an outdoor photography session.

A single exposure of a few random wires on a workbench triggered several years of experiments to adapt ICM to a controlled studio environment.

David’s experiments resulted in the development of a studio specifically designed for close-up ICM photography and refinement of techniques that are used to create his unique abstract art.

Using common items such as leaves, twigs, leaves, wood chips, tissue paper, plastic bags, newsprint, and an assortment of glass objects, he has created a body of work that has garnered many regional and national awards.

To date, he has authored three books on the topic of ICM in the Studio and he routinely provides workshops to camera clubs and other arts-based groups on the methods used to make his art.

In this webinar, David will go into great detail on how to optimise a studio for ICM work along with equipment and technique considerations when making ICM abstracts in a highly controlled environment. Along the way, he will provide many examples of his work to reinforce the processes and techniques included in the program.
